Elton knows exactly how to work a crowd and just which buttons to push to obtain a reaction. He made especially sure that the people behind the stage and on the sides didn't feel like they were getting any lesser of a performance than those situated up front. When the stage left audience area was seeming a bit lethargic, all he would have to do is face that part of the crowd or hold the microphone up to them for a large ovation for being recognized by him.

To attend an Elton John concert these days  is a cross between a family reunion and a sing-a-long around a campfire. There are people of all ages in the audience. The younger ones, really younger ones, were counting on a familiar Lion King song to be played. The teens were calling out the names of something a bit more contemporary, while the older folks were looking for the classics from the 70's. Everyone left satisfied.

Elton had his usual cronies of Davey, Dee and Nigel to accompany him on the tour. They've been playing together for a number of years and have been able to stay tight as they proved on this evening.
