October 1999

Carlos Santana and his band 2 days after the passing of  Hurricane Irene, blew the roof off of the  Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida.

He began the set off with (DA LE) YALEO  of his # 1 selling album SUPERNATURAL, from the moment he started Playing he had the crowd under his spell. During the show, as you walked around the venue It almost seemed like an old rock festival, with people sitting outside the main seating area on blankets enjoying the show on the big screen

As you listen to him play, you begin to realize you are in the presence of a legend. His Guitar playing is so Smooth, almost effortless as he easily changes from jazz to Latin to rock and when doing some of his older songs a bluesy psychedelic

Santana is one of a very few artists who to truly enjoy his artistry you must see him perform live, and if you missed this show you missed something very special. He does not need or resort to the theatrics some other performers rely on but rather he prefers to let his music do the talking. Some people described it as a “musical poem” or  “liquid music the way his music flows”.

All these people, and you, have been by to read Stage*Shots!

Santana is fortunate to have also surrounded himself with a group of very talented musicians, they include Chester Thompson on keyboards, percussionists Karl Perazzo and Raul Rekow, drummer Rodney Holmes, bassist Benny Reitvald and vocalist Tony Lindsey. During the show he was joined on stage by members of OZOMALTI the band which had been the opening act. For tonight's show. They are a group which appear to share Santana's views on the direction of music, they are definitely a group to watch for in the upcoming years as they continue to bring the message into the next millennium.

Santana's 2 hour show covered some of his classic hits like BLACK MAGIC WOMAN and OYE COMO VA mixed with some of his current hits like MARIA, MARIA and LEAVE YOUR LIGHTS ON. Even after the show was over, it still felt like it had just begun and there still was so much more left to cover.

As we were leaving  you could hear almost everyone humming their favorite song from the concert. For 2 hours we were all brothers, captivated by the magic known as .....

..............SANTANA
